Three Knocks

Serin sits on the floor beside the wall.

The baby is in her arms.

Several survivors sit silently around her.

Serin: Has anyone seen them?

Resident 1: Who?

Serin: Lian, Kiera and Daren.

No one has seen them.

A faint sound comes from the hallway.

Step.

Step.

Everyone looks toward the door.

The footsteps stop.

Then—

BANG!

Everyone jumps.

Another bang comes from farther down the hallway.

Silence.

Meanwhile, Lian, Kiera, Daren, and Orven continue searching.

They find another survivor named Maevra.

Maevra: You really aren't infected?

Daren: No.

Maevra warns them that the building is not empty.

Lian: What do you mean?

Maevra: There are rooms in this building that aren't on the floor plans.

Lian: Hidden rooms?

Maevra: Hidden service rooms.

Orven looks at her.

Orven: Where?

Maevra: Below us.

Maevra says something has been using them.

A faint sound comes from inside her apartment.

Tap.

Tap.

Orven freezes.

Orven: That's the sound.

Lian: What sound?

Orven: The one from the basement.

Maevra reveals that she has heard the same sound for two days.

Lian: Why does it knock?

Maevra: Because it wants someone to open the door.

Three knocks follow.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Maevra: That's the same sound.

The group retreats.

Then a voice comes from the darkness.

Unknown Voice: Open the door.

Orven steps backward.

Daren: Why are you afraid?

Orven: Because that voice belongs to someone who is dead.

The lights flicker.

Darkness.

Then three knocks again.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

No one moves.
