The Door
The baby suddenly cries.
Baby: Waaah!
No one moves.
The footsteps outside the room stop.
Kiera slowly looks toward the door.
Kiera: It's right outside…
Daren: Nobody makes a sound.
Serin holds the baby close.
Serin: Shh… please…
The crying slowly becomes quieter.
A faint sound comes from the other side of the door.
SCRATCH.
Kiera: What was that?
Lian: Don't.
Another scratch.
Daren raises the metal rod.
Daren: Everyone stay back.
The door shakes.
BANG!
Several people jump.
Kiera: It's here!
BANG!
Daren: Stay back!
BANG!
A crack appears near the frame.
Daren: Move away from the door!
Everyone backs toward the opposite wall.
The door suddenly stops shaking.
Kiera: Did it leave?
Daren: I don't know.
Daren checks beneath the door.
Nothing.
Daren: It's gone.
A crash comes from farther down the corridor.
CRASH!
Everyone turns.
Lian: What was that?
A door somewhere down the corridor opens.
Then another.
Then another.
Kiera: We're not alone.
Daren: Everyone stay inside.
A scream echoes from another apartment.
Unknown Resident: HELP!
Then silence.
Lian: We can't stay here forever.
Daren: We make this place safer.
Lian: How?
Daren: We find out how many people are still alive.
Later, Lian, Kiera, and Daren prepare to search.
Serin stays with the baby.
Serin: Be careful.
Lian: We will.
The door closes behind them.
In the hallway, they find wet footprints leading toward the staircase.
Lian: Those weren't there before.
Daren: Don't touch them.
The footprints suddenly stop.
A faint voice comes from downstairs.
Unknown Voice: Please…
Everyone freezes.
Kiera: Is it a survivor?
The voice comes again.
Unknown Voice: I'm still human.
A young man appears on the stairs with his hands raised.
Unknown Voice: Don't come closer.
Lian: We're not going to hurt you.
Daren: What's your name?
Unknown Voice: Orven.
Daren: Where were you hiding?
Orven: Basement.
Lian: How many people were there?
Orven hesitates.
Orven: Six.
Daren: Where are they?
Orven: I'm the only one left.
A metallic sound comes from below.
CLANG.
Kiera: What was that?
Orven looks down.
Orven: They're awake.
Lian: Who?
Orven: The ones I locked down there.
